CFDA Newbies

The internet is abuzz with the announcement of the new inductees to the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Among the prestigious 31 invitees were: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Alexander Wang and Jason Wu. I would say that Wang and Wu were not surprising, but I am a bit taken aback by the inclusion of the Olsen sisters. However, unlike many other 'celebrity brands,' they seem to have been welcomed into the fashion world with open arms and really do appear to have a lot of hands-on involvement in the process instead of merely lending their names to an established brand.

What are your thoughts on the new members? Do they deserve to be included amongst the special few?

Simply write your own "petite novella" (or short fashion fiction) about the outfit you/a character would wear incorporating those jeans & leave it in the comments! Have fun, be creative - you have a week!

  3. I understand why Wang and Wu would be included but not the Olsen's, I just don't quite understand how they are relevant to fashion and why there's such a hype around them....but then again there are such things that one just will never understand :S

    Wonderful post!

  4. Thank you, Marta!

Mademoiselle Couturier, thanks for the heads-up about your give away. I shall visit and enter.

Yuka, I agree that they seem to actually have taken the time to get to know fabrics and cuts, etc...It's just unusual to me that the CFDA would let in celebrity designers, though they are probably a better choice than many other 'celebrities.'
